RAAS Graduate Student Awardees 2010

The Romanian Association for American Studies has awarded the following RAAS members for their dissertations defended between 2008 and 2010 and submitted for the Graduate Student Award: Dana Mihailescu, University of Bucharest, for the best PhD dissertation; Adelina Vartolomei, Ovidius University Constanta for the best MA dissertation. The awarding ceremony took place on October 7th, on the occasion of the 2010 RAAS-Fulbright Conference opening, when H.E.  Mark H. Gitenstein, U.S. Ambassador to Bucharest, presented the GSA certificates to the two awardees.

RAAS Graduate Student Award (GSA)

Requirements and Evaluating Procedure (2010) The Romanian Association for American Studies will reward one best MA dissertation and one best PhD dissertation submitted by graduate students and/or junior faculty members. The MA dissertation award will consist of a 150 euro prize and the PhD dissertation award will consist of a 250 euro prize as well as an official document certifying the receipt of the GSA. 2010 EAAS TRAVEL GRANTS

The European Association for American Studies is pleased to announce the 2010 EAAS travel grants for postgraduate students in the Humanities and Social Sciences who are registered for a higher research degree at any European university. Two kinds of grants are available: the Transatlantic Grant and the Intra-European Grant. It is expected that four scholarships will be available this year. 2009 EAAS Rob Kroes AWARDEE

 The Rob Kroes Publication award committee has decided that Professor Astrid Franke (University of Tübingen) shall receive the 2009 Rob Kroes Publication Award. Her book manuscript, "Pursue the Illusion: Problems of Public Poetry in America," will be published as volume 2 of the EAAS book series European Views of the United States. Accepting proposals for small grants

The American Cultural Center of the US Embassy in Bucharest is pleased to announce that it is now accepting proposals for small grants to support American Studies programs in Romania. We are accepting requests for funding from universities that have American Studies programs, undergraduate and graduate. University programs and American Studies scholars may request grants for travel to conferences (after April 1) and/or for library development. For conference travel, priority will be given to first-time applicants; cost-share conference travel requests are more likely to be funded.
