The American Cultural Center of the US Embassy in Bucharest is pleased to announce that it is now accepting proposals for small grants to support American Studies programs in Romania. We are accepting requests for funding from universities that have American Studies programs, undergraduate and graduate. University programs and American Studies scholars may request grants for travel to conferences (after April 1) and/or for library development.

For conference travel, priority will be given to first-time applicants; cost-share conference travel requests are more likely to be funded.

For library collection development (book orders and subscriptions to periodical publications), the maximum amount that can be requested is $3,000.

Proposals that have been properly coordinated with faculty deans, department heads or, as the case may be, with directors of American Studies programs, will be given preference.

Please submit your grant requests no later than Monday, March 2, 2009 to Cornelia Vlaicu at [email protected]. Due to the limited amount of funds available, applications received after that date cannot be accepted.  Applicants will be informed of the results of this selection by the end of March.

For all your grant requests, please use the attached grant request format. Successful applicants (excepting individuals) will be required to obtain a DUNS number (instructions attached) if they do not have one already.

We are looking forward to your applications.
