Call for Applications for EAAS Conference Participation Travel Grants
for Junior Scholars at Romanian Public Universities
The U.S. Embassy in Romania has the pleasure to invite applications for travel grants
for participation in the EAAS conference 20/20 Vision: Citizenship, Space, Renewal,
which will take place in Warsaw, Poland, between May 1-3, 2020. The grants are in
support of the professional development of junior scholars teaching American Studies
content at public universities in Romania.
Applications should be submitted by March 11, 2020 via e-mail only. Applications,
as well as questions, should be addressed to PASGrants@state.gov; please include
EAAS American Studies Conference in the subject line. Please be advised that we will
confirm receipt of each individual application. Any application that does not include
all required documents will not be considered. Finalists will be notified by April 10.
Applicants may request funding to cover the costs of transportation and
accommodation. The applications must include: the abstract of the accepted paper;
the applicants’ academic resume; a list of publications; a brief description of the
courses and workshops they teach on a regular basis; a statement of interest which
must describe how the applicants will use this experience to enhance the content of
their current courses, develop new ones based on their research, or otherwise
disseminate it; and an itemized budget.
Criteria for grant award:
- Candidates are junior Romanian scholars and teach an American Studies-
related course at a Romanian public university
- Candidates’ proposals (title and abstract) have already been accepted by the
conference advisory board and the acceptance notification has been received
- Candidates explain how their research for the conference paper will have an
impact on/ be incorporated in their teaching
- Candidates are willing to share portions of their papers via the U.S. Embassy’s
Facebook page in the form of short videos available for viewing by the public
- Candidates’ proposals focus on one of the following topics, as listed in the
EAAS call for papers: the evolution or devolution of the idea of a democratic
citizen in American politics; citizenship and economy; citizenship and
mobility; citizenship and slavery; citizenship and disability; citizenship and
community; civil rights; space exploration; social media and internet space;
rural vs. urban space; the idea of renewal – American culture/ discourse of
rebirth, reawakening, and revolution (source:
